Zoox, owned by Amazon, has just opened a 220,000 square feet manufacturing facility to build its Robotaxi vehicles in California

The company said on Wednesday that Zoox, a subsidiary of Amazon’s Robotaxi, has opened a new manufacturer in California to build thousands of self -driving vehicles in the form of a toaster.

The company said that the opening of the 220,000 square feet facility in Hayuard, California, paves the way for Zoox to collect more than 10,000 robots every year. But it may take some time before Zoox has a capacity, as it has not yet launched commercial operations.

Zoox, which has been working on self -driving car technology since 2014, has started horseback riding in pod -like vehicles with no wheels or pedals for employees and choosing invitations in the Gulf region and Las Vegas in 2023.

It also expanded her fleet of tests – Toyota Highlander Hybrids with radar and dildo sensors, and managed by safety drivers – on Austin and Miami last year.

Since Zoox is preparing for the commercial launch of its Robotaxi service, which it said later this year, the company had to face some hiccups. In April, Zoox 258 pulled out of the streets to update its program after the test vehicles participated in two accidents with motorcyclists. NHTSA opened a preliminary investigation after the accidents, although it ended the probe after Zoox released a program update. In May, Zoox conducted two other summonses – first after an accident in which one of the robotics collided with a passenger vehicle in Las Vegas, and then another where a person was on a bike of one of the non -preoccupied taxis.

In general, Zoox has more than its competitors to make people comfortable with its cars. Amazon’s Zoox is the only self-driving company in the United States, which is ever-commercially following what you call roboti “specially designed”-which means that Zoox will use it to transport customers do not have things like guidance wheels or pedals. While other companies, including Waymo and Tesla, have offered designs for their own cars without pedals or directive wheels, none of them currently use such vehicles in the streets with customers. Tesla, which is expected to launch the ROBOTAXI service in Austin later this month, is used by standard Y, and Waymo uses modified Jaguar I-PACE compounds in the four cities in which they work.

The placement of vehicles on the roads without standard controls, such as steering wheels and pedals, displays a set of obstacles. For anyone, the respondents should recognize the vehicles that have not previously seen before. And vehicles that do not have controls that are difficult to move if they stumbled, as no one can jump in the car and drive it manually. Zoox CEO, Aicha Evans, said that robots may need to be withdrawn in these scenarios if he could not help.

Meanwhile, Federal Organizers have pointed out plans to facilitate the matter on vehicles such as Zoox’s Robotaxi out of the streets. The Ministry of Transport said that it plans to simplify the exemption process so that companies can obtain approvals to operate vehicles without traditional controls Quickly. Zoox has Fiercely The robots designed for this purpose already meet all federal safety guidelines.

During the opening of its new manufacturing facility, Zoox said that the previous assembly facility in Fremont, California. It will be allocated to re -adjust the test fleet through its independent system and programs, as well as to form sensors. Zoox first seized the building in 2023 and started using the Robotaxi assembly facility at the end of last year. There are about 100 employees currently working, and the company says it is employing more manufacturing roles, engineering, logistics and operations because it plans to expand its manufacturing.
