Trump says high customs duties a year from now will be a “complete victory”
President Donald Trump said if the United States is still suffering from a high tariff for foreign imports a year from now, he will consider it a “complete victory.”
Trump commented in an interview with “timeThe magazine was published on Friday about the first 100 days of its term, which will be arrived on April 30. The interview was held at the White House on Tuesday.
During the interview, which was conducted by the great political correspondent Eric Cortellisa and editor at the President of Sam Jacobs, “Time” asked the president whether he considered him a victory if “high definitions, whether 20 %, 30 % or 50 %”, is still in place in one year.
Trump replied, “Full Victory,” adding, “Because the country will make a fortune.”
Trump said that the presence of a zero tariff “will be easy”, but otherwise companies motivate the production of their goods in the United States.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump said his comprehensive tariff policy will encourage companies to build and invest in the United States. The customs tariff currently includes a 10 % global tariff in most countries and a 145 % tariff in China. The high definitions of other countries are currently offering and temporarily stopping for 90 days, Trump announced earlier this month.
On April 2, Trump’s introductory advertisement installed stock and financial markets worldwide. Although there is some recovery, the markets remained volatile with the uncertainty about the definitions.
Trump said he wanted to reduce or eliminate American trade deficit with other countries and that he is talking with leaders all over the world to conclude deals on trade. He also said that the Americans could feel “short -term” pain as a result of definitions.
On Tuesday, on the same day that Trump conducted the interview at the time, he told reporters at the White House that the customs tariff for China “will drop significantly”, but not to scratch.
The market’s reaction was positive on Wednesday after Wall Street Magazine Scott Beesen, the authorized treasury minister, said there was a “opportunity” for a major trade agreement with China.
But on Thursday, Chinese officials denied Trump’s claim that China and the United States had grabbed talks on a commercial deal.
Trump also told “Time” that he conducted 200 commercial transactions, although no of them was announced.
He refused to clarify the deals when asked, but he said that “during the three weeks to the next four” will be completed.
