What we know about Robotaxi’s planning for Cybercab and Tesla in June
Tesla provided more details about the launch of the planned June Robotaxi in Austin during the first quarter profit call on Tuesday.
The Robotaxi service comes from Tesla after years of missing deadlines and an increasingly competitive field – but smaller.
General Motors’s trip from the race earlier this year, but Waymo Alphabet has continuously increased its service and now provides 200,000 trips per week in limited parts of the San Francisco, Vinix, Atlanta and Austin area, according to the company.
There is also Amazon’s Zoox, which manufactures Robotaxi designed for this purpose, and other companies that focus on programs and hope to provide independent driving features for the company’s original equipment vehicles.
But Elon Musk divides the company’s approach to autonomy.
During the profit call, describing Tesla self -driving capabilities as a “generalized solution using artificial intelligence”.
The CEO has previously described this approach, which indicates Tesla’s dependence on the cameras – unlike the staple of the price devices consisting of sensors and cameras – and Amnesty International that will use the visual inputs to drive the car. This can allow Tesla to expand the scope of independence faster and at lower costs, since, in theory, any Tesla model can be published as a roboty.
“I expect that there will be millions of Tellas that work independently – completely independently – in the second half of next year,” Musk said during the call.
Here is what we know now about the Tesla’s Robotaxi service – and some remaining questions:
How will it look like a planned Robotaxi planned in Tesla in June?
Tesla was keen to call the Robotaxi service that we will see in June, “Experimental”, which hints to the limited range of the initial launch.
Musk said during the call that “the first day” of the Robotaxi service will start with “perhaps 10 or 20 vehicles.” From there, Tesla will “quickly expand it.”
“Once we make it work in a few cities, we can make it mainly work in all cities in that legal judicial jurisdiction,” he said.
What Tesla cars will be used to release Robotaxi?
The first group of Tesla Robotaxis is expected to be the YS model by updating the program, according to Musk.
“With the update of the program, it will become independent,” Musk said. “To be clear, the model we are talking about about Austin’s autonomy in June is the model that we currently offer. There is no change in it.”
It is not clear whether Tesla will be managed the first batch of Robotaxis directly or whether it will consist of Teslas private ownership owned by the owners of the service.
The CEO also explained that Cybercab is a separate product. In October 2024, Tesla unveiled a roboty made of doors with no driving wheel.
“We have a product called Cybercab,” he said during the profit call on Tuesday. “Then, if any Tesla – which can be (model) S, 3, X or Y is a taxi or robotic roboty. It is very confusing.”
So, when will we get Cybercab?
Lars Moravi, Vice President of Vehicle Engineering in Tesla, said during the call that the production of Cybercab is still on the specified date of 2026.
Movy said that the company is currently in “checking the health of the sample” for the car, which means that Tesla is building the initial model of the car, but using materials that will be close to the final product.
Moravi said that “Big Builds” or the next stage of vehicle building before the size of the size comes at the end of the second quarter.
Tesla expects to be able to pump Cybercabs widely widely using what the company calls the “non -tied” manufacturing method.
Traditional car manufacturers build cars on the assembly line. Tesla is betting on a new way as different parts of the car are assembled at one time and then combined later.
“We are still on the date for production next year,” Moravi said.
How can we ask Tesla Robotaxi in June?
Tesla did not eat how people in Austin would be able to order a roboty at launch during the profit call.
The company has previously disturbed its application for the mobile phone running last year, where the user can “call” a car and adjust climate settings before its arrival.
When will Tesla Robotaxis be available outside Austin?
Musk has not made an accurate time schedule for expanding plans for Tesla. But the CEO gave some ambitious numbers.
In addition to predicting “millions” of robots on the road by the second half of next year, Musk said that Tesla will take “90 ° C” from the Rideshare market.
Musk is very optimistic about these numbers because, in theory, no tin on the road should be able to work as a roboty owner by updating the program.
This differs from a company like Waymo, which not only depends on sensors and cameras for its autonomous car but also needs to appoint a city before robots are published in the public.
A Waymo spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
