My fiancée and my fiancée have a talent to collect budget -friendly trips, and last August, we put our test skills to attend a wedding on Crete.
To save a few hundred dollars on our journey outside New York, we booked a 13 -hour trip in Istanbul and a short stop in Athens.
Many people thought about our lives to stop for more than half a day in one miserable place, but we had a plan: We were increasing those who stopped to the maximum and use it as an opportunity to explore a new city and visit an old friend.
However, shortly after we arrived in Istanbul, things took an unexpected turn.
Unfortunately, we did not stop our stop as planned
My friend was not fine, so we scratched our plans to meet her in the city center.
We were not worried because we could still explore Istanbul alone – and we decided to benefit from the free city tour of Turkish Airlines to provide stops.
When we got to the Tourism Office, we learned that the Americans need a transit visa if they wanted to get out of the airport in Türkiye. We had no idea and did not make any arrangements in advance.
Usually we want to check the travel guidelines and regulations – and I could not believe that such small censorship apparently change our plans completely.
Although we have tried to apply for emergency visas, doing this would have cost us much more than we put in the budget to stop us.
Therefore, we now had 13 hours to kill without leaving the airport.
We have achieved the most of the comment, and I learned a valuable lesson in travel

We tried to make the most of the hours of hours wandering at Istanbul Airport, which is in fact very beautiful.
As an internal designer, I really enjoyed taking the details of architecture and modern and elegant space design. We ended up shopping and buying an exaggerated airport food.
Between meals, beverages, souvenirs, and the automatic fiance of my drone, our stop costs have been added quickly.
Unfortunately, within a few hours, we mainly spent the amount of money we provided by reserving a trip with stops instead of a non -stop trip.
The next station of the trip was not without a set of obstacles as well. When we finally got to Athens, my luggage broke out when we got out of the plane.
24 hours after not sleeping, multiple stops, and unexpected expenses, we were exhausted when we got to Crete.
However, even with these incidents, we stopped in Istanbul a unique experience that I would not completely delete – although we will definitely be more ready next time.
The biggest lesson we learned is that it is important to check the requirements for entering each country before assuming that we can explore a new place while stopping the stop.
And if you need a visa to get out of the airport, apply it online before the flight to save time and money.
