Trump said that the definitions are unilateral “take it or leave it” will come soon
President Donald Trump said he would send messages to commercial partners within about two weeks, and informed them that the United States imposes a unilateral tariff on them.
Speaking to reporters at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, the president said he was not considering extending the deadline for commercial talks with countries, because he had already made a “great formulation with China” and one with the United Kingdom.
“Now, at a certain stage, we will just send messages, and I think you understand that, saying this is the deal. You can take it, or you can leave it,” Trump said.
He added, “You don’t have to use it. You don’t have to shop in the United States, as I say.”
He said that trade negotiations are still continuing with about 15 countries, including Japan and South Korea, but it was not possible to negotiate with “150 Plus”.
His comments on the assumption of one -sided tariff came about 60 days away from the 90 -day tariff he announced in April.
On April 2, President A. The baseline is 10 % tariff On goods from all countries. Some areas will undergo a higher welfare, called “mutual tariffs”, such as the European Union by 20 % and Vietnam by 46 %.
On April 9, he said that “mutual” definitions will be delayed for 90 days to allow commercial negotiations. During the stoppage period, tax rates decreased to 10 % for goods from most countries.
On April 23, Trump said he would start a tariff on countries that do not reach trade deals with the United States within two to three weeks.
Trump’s comments come at the Kennedy Center shortly after the American Court of Appeal of the Federal Department announced on Tuesday that the definitions will be allowed to remain in effect at least during the next two months, which led to the suspension of the judgment of the lower court that nullified it.
Trump representatives did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
