The minimum vulnerability has been officially closed – Prepare for the highest prices
A commercial vulnerability called De Minimis ends, which allowed cheaper international shipment, ending with one minute in midnight on Friday.
The minimum exemption means that retailers can save a lot of money on the parcels sent to the United States by not having to pay import taxes or fees. Applies to shipments of less than $ 800, which have been sent directly to customers.
Why is this validity expired?
President Donald Trump closed the first loophole in February. But after a few days, he signed an executive order that he will remain the minimum – also known as Section 321 – will work so that customs officials can create a new process to collect fees on the packets sent using the ruling.
Now, the customs tariff is completely canceled.
The White House described the closure of “a critical step in the face of the ongoing health emergencies offered by the illegal flow of artificial Avions to the United States.”
Trump said on Wednesday that the vulnerability was “a major fraud revolving against our country.”
Why close the minimum matters?
According to customs and American border protection, De Minimis shipments represent more than 90 % of all goods that enter the United States.
This vulnerability was particularly friendly for the Chinese fast and Temu rapid giants, which, until Friday, could import very low cost elements from China without paying any duty. From February, other companies that manufacture goods in China were defined.
Now, shipments from China that have not faced any tariff will be exposed to a tariff rate of 145 %.
Millions of Americans have been attracted to Xin and Timo due to their low prices and clearance sales, and sometimes up to 90 %. But in the first place, it is the minimum exemption that allowed them to provide these price signs.
The competing companies said that they will raise prices after increases in customs tariff rates.
“To continue to provide the products she loves without prejudice to quality, we will make price adjustments starting April 25, 2025.”.
He added that “its operating expenses have increased” due to “the recent changes in the global trade rules and definitions.”
Meanwhile, TEMU added “import fees” to customer orders at the end of April.
