The illegal bitcoin mining process is exposed after the outbreak of the fire in the Malaysian house

Malaysia rocked an unexpected discovery on Tuesday when the explosion and smoke led a house along Lorong Cekara Purnama, Bandar Punkak Alam, the authorities to reveal an illegal mining process.

This development comes at a time when the Southeast Asian state continues to fight unauthorized encryption mining, causing great financial losses and strains of power infrastructure in the country.

The electrical fire displays the illegal process

The last cases have shed light on another example of illegal cryptocurrencies that grow in frequency throughout Malaysia.

Bitcoin miners steal electricity in Malaysia

Between 2018 and 2023, Malaysia lost about 723 million dollars due to the use of unauthorized electricity for encryption mining. The Deputy Minister, Amal Nasser, then stated that miners are taking advantage of the abstract force, but the energy providers have ways to discover. In a campaign in October 2022, the authorities seized and destroyed more than 2000 unconfirmed mining devices worth $ 467,000.

Despite these losses, coded currency mining itself is not illegal in Malaysia, but the stealing of electricity in the country is a serious crime that carries penalties of 100,000 Malaysian Rangeett ($ 21,000) in fines or five years in prison.

Last August, the Malaysian authorities arrested seven individuals – three local population and four foreigners – claiming the stealing of electricity for bitcoin mining. Sibang County Police Commander confirmed that none of them had previous criminal records. Officials seized 52 mining platforms and electronic devices worth about $ 57,000.

In the same month, the Malaysian authorities destroyed 985 mining platforms worth $ 452,500 by crushing them using Steamroller. These machines were confiscated during enforcement operations from 2022 to April 2024.
