The drone warfare in Ukraine fills trenches with fishing networks from Denmark
- The Ukrainian forces need a hard window to prevent drones to attack the enemy.
- They get more than 1,000 tons of Denmark for free, thanks to Britain’s exit from the only European Union and the gardener.
- He and the other volunteers are carrying trucks that were transported in the hard window in the ports on the front lines.
Karl Vutertrop is not a military man. The 53 -year -old gardener spends most of the days on the buttons and tractors, and tends to fields in a town on the western edge of Copenhagen, Denmark.
But Futtrup, like many Europeans, has closely watched over Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in 2022 and donated equipment to the front lines.
Before Christmas last year, the wind of an unusual request from Ukrainians caught in the trenches. They needed the thick window enough to stop the ammunition-loaded drones that became the pioneering killer in the battlefield. The soldiers wrapped them through immune positions and combat vehicles as a final defense, and Futtru listened to the fact that they were saving lives.
“They write to me that they want more because all other donations are of no value,” Vutertrop told Business Insider.
Thyborø, the hunting village that includes about 2000 people in Gotland, has only 450 tons of those who sit in the port. These cladding nets were made of nylon fibers with a thickness of four millimeters to thick hundreds of fish simultaneously from the depths of the sea.
FUTTRUP found Thyborbs on Facebook and asked if they were open to donation. They agreed.
Now, the window is located in Ukraine, where it is used to disrupt the aircraft of Russian aircraft similar to insects on the Putting paper. It is just the first segment of the Futtrup and other volunteers hope that up to 2.1 million pounds of Danish commercial nets – left Brexit hunting disputes – the Ukrainian fortifications are lined.
Ukrainian soldiers will hope Nets like Futtrup in the final defense line against drones.

While drones dominate the battlefield, defensive netting has become a hot commodity on the ground.
“It is really effective because drones are still using fans and picking up the fans.” “Even after the explosion, the network will not be destroyed or burned completely, and some fibers can still capture other drones.”
He told Bi.
Erdashin, who helps his brigade in buying supplies in the first place, said that the donated window in Futtrup is published in the department of its units in the confrontation line. The brigade is fighting near Boucrovsk.
Fishing networks are not new in the war. The Ukrainians have used them in fortified sites since it started the full invasion, but primarily to provide camouflage.
Recently, Ardashyn said, there has been an increasing demand for the hard window as the forces realized that it could be a reliable option to confront the unwanted air systems. The need is exacerbated by the increasing use of optical fiber drones, which can go beyond electronic jamming and must be banned or disabled.
“We are talking about a big window,” Erdashin said. “Not those who use it manually, but they are really big, like ships. The materials are strong enough so that they can handle a drone from the sky.”
Some units began to wrap thick networks on tree lines along the supply routes to obstruct the ambush from a skilled Russian drone. Others wrote their fully fortified positions in the netting.
Federico Porzari, a colleague of the European Policy Analysis Center, who is studying the war of aircraft in Ukraine, said the Moscow forces were also using them.
“The Russians use a window to cover the entire roads and protect their logistics from a drone from the first person from the first person from the first person, with mixed results depending on the area,” Bi told Bi. He added that it is unlikely that either side has sufficient time or resources to cover the entire back with the net.
The forces also use it to protect armored vehicles, relying on a group of nets and metal tires – which were mocking “cages” – to reduce the opportunities for direct impact from a drone. Even the feet or distance of two armored vehicle body can reduce the power of explosive drones.
Erdashin said: “The amount of nets required is increasing dramatically.”
Ukrainians have used networks to protect their cars and armored rifles since the beginning of the war.

The loss of Britain’s exit from the European Union, the profit of Ukraine
Once again in Denmark, Futtru was contacted to other local ports and got 600 tons of nets window to send to Ukraine via Truck. He was talking to the Ukrainian media, such as The Kyiv Post, in an attempt to raise funds from volunteers and the Danish government for transport.
They are heavy expenditures for the gardener, with the costs of the second shipment, which total about 90,000 euros. Futtrup estimates that each truck can carry up to 20 tons of nets, and each flight will cost about 3000 euros, or $ 3200. The typical nets network length is about 1300 feet.
The nets themselves free. Carsten Bach, a member of the right -wing opposition opposition party, told Bi that most of the windows that were donated in storage for years after Britain’s exit from the European Union cut the British fishing waters from Danish fishermen.
Bach said that the donor net was sitting in the port because Britain’s exit from the European Union prevented the Danish fishermen from using it in British waters.

“Some of the fishermen put a great value in this net. It is a major investment for a small company or one person’s hunter,” said Bach, a party spokesman for the defense and food. The fishing industry contributes about 0.75 % of GDP in Denmark, but the country is the fifth largest source of fish products in the world.
Bach said that many fishermen chose to maintain their nets, in the hope that a new agreement with the United Kingdom would be able to restore access to old hunting sites.
However, Danish environmental laws require that this equipment be eliminated or ultimately recycled. Bach said that the fishermen should pay a large fee for this service.
The politician, who is helping Futtrup to submit a funding proposal to the Danish government, said it is likely that this window will not be a renewed resource for Ukraine.
“There will be a large volume of fishing equipment in the future, in the future, such as canceling it in Denmark,” Bach said.
The Danish net will not continue forever
Bernard Christinen, who runs the brave Swedish organization, said that Futtrup provides at least 13 units on the front lines.
“This is the main vein in the foreseeable future,” he told Bi.
Kristensen, a Swedish who lives in Ukraine, helps the brigade find sources of hard networks. He said that one of the two returns usually demand between 50 to 80 tons of netting, and it may be difficult to buy locally. Russian -controlled lands prevent a lot from Ukraine’s arrival to the Black Sea and the Azov Sea.
He told a unit commander overseeing the fortifications and decline in the direction of Donetsk BI that his battalion needs about three truck loads, or nearly 60 tons of window, per month.
“We do not have local sources for these nets, it can only be obtained from the outside,” said the leader who occurs, provided that his identity is not disclosed due to his work allergy. His identity is known to.
He said that the matter requires his men about three to four days to create a single truck load, and often “tunnels” along miles along the roads to protect vehicles from drones.
But even with voluntary donations, it is barely not enough to wrap.
“Many units strongly need these marine nets,” he added.
The window discovered by Crane is loaded in Denmark, then it was transferred to the front lines in Ukraine.

This means that FUTTRUP networks will ultimately run out, and Kristensen must search elsewhere soon. He said that the courage of Ukraine is looking to obtain a window from organizations that clean the Western Swedish coast.
Jennifer Cavanag, director of military analysis in the priorities of Dabaa research in Washington, told Business Insider that Ukraine’s demand for fishing networks is an example of how the fighting there merged modern war.
She said: “In the United States, military and political leaders are always looking for the best weapon or military regime, a single platform that will give the United States uninterrupted advantages.” “But what the Ukraine war showed is that although these types of high -tech solutions to military challenges have their place, low alternatives and inexpensive technology can sometimes work as well.”
She added that investing billions of dollars in advanced platforms may not be sufficient to win a future war, as it may be defeated by a less capacity discount with a simple or cheap defense.
“Fishing networks may not be the correct response to the American army, but in this case and others, Pentagon should spend more time exploring less advanced options instead of immediately backward for complex and designated designs,” said Cavanagh.
Meanwhile, Futtrup said it was his energy to secure the truck’s money on the donor net. He hopes to obtain 50,000 euros from Swedish and Danish government agencies.
“Ukraine is part of Europe, and the country is only 1,250 km from Copenhagen,” said Ukraine is part of Europe, and the country is only 1,250 km from Copenhagen, “
“As long as there was a request on hunting networks in Ukraine, I will send them, so that there is nothing to find in Denmark as well,” he added.
