U.S. DOJ resolves the encryption enforcement unit

The US Department of Justice (Doj) has announced that it will no longer follow criminal cases against the exchange of encryption, developers or users participating in organizational violations.

This is followed by the dissolution of the NCET Current Currency Porting Team, a specialized unit that focuses on criminal activities related to encryption.

In a memorandum sent to the employees of the Ministry of Justice on Monday evening, the Deputy Prosecutor, Todd Blanche, confirmed that the guidance was effective immediately. Blanche highlighted that the agency will not use its resources to control digital assets through a criminal claim. “The Ministry of Justice is not an organizer of digital assets,” the Ministry of Justice said, adding that “the reckless strategy of the organization through the judicial prosecution” around which the administration revolves was not qualified and implemented badly.

The memorandum also indicated that the Ministry of Justice will stop following up the procedures for litigation or enforcement that involve the exchange of encryption, mixing services, and a governor who is not connected to the actions of its final users or any unintended organizational violations.

Specifically, instructions were directed to employees not to impose fees on organizational violations, such as those related to the BSA law, transfer of unlicensed funds, or violations of federal securities laws and commodity laws on coding issues.

Instead, the agency will now focus its efforts to prosecute individuals who harm the investors of digital assets or use the cryptocurrency for criminal activities such as terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking and financial fraud.

The official also ordered the closure of continuous investigations that are not in line with this new policy. The Ministry of Justice will cooperate with its criminal division to ensure a fixed application.

NCET sharing in prominent encryption situations

NCET has participated in many major encryption cases, including the Tornado Cash trial, which is an ETHEREUM Mixing Service.

In 2023, the Ministry of Justice arrested the Roman storm, one of the platform developers, on charges of money laundering and penalties. The case caused controversy, with the storm argued that the platform did not intentionally help two criminal elements because it was a service without permission.

Another prominent case included the Samurai wallet, a bitcoin wallet that focuses on privacy accused of enabling the transfer of unlicensed money. Although the product is a non -uniform service that does not control user boxes, legislators claimed that the coin mixing features were used to hide unlawful transactions.

This is not the first time that a federal coding work band has been dissolved under the current management. In January, after an executive order from President Trump, the CFTC Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has reduced enforcement teams that focus on encryption. Leave this only two groups to deal with matters related to digital assets.
