Christian Thompson, the Sui Administrative Director, sat with Beincrypto during the first Asian tour since he held this position. As a former deputy in Ciso in Meta who has led Blockchain Security for the LIBRA/Diem project, Thompson brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in various industries, including successful entrepreneurship and law enforcement.
In a large -scale interview in Seoul, Thompson discussed SUI’s achievements in 2024 and ambitious plans for 2025, including the launch of Suiplay0x1, the first Blockchain game console. He emphasized the strategic importance of Korea in the global expansion of Sui, where he exchanged ideas about Web2 and Web3. It was also reflected in the lessons learned from the meta project in Meta in the advanced American organizational scene.
How can you evaluate SUI’s performance in 2024, and what is your vision for 2025?
2024 was about a test and guarantee that our technology was stable and developed. We have achieved $ 1.75 billion in Defi TVL, which has grown to two billion dollars in only three months. We also reached 35 billion dollars in the size of DeX and 300,000 active portfolios per day in games. For 2025, we will be very aggressive in marketing, ecosystems and society. We need thousands of developers who build Web3 to make adoption occur across billions of people.
Suiplay0x1 is a milestone as the first Blockchain game devices. What led to this unprecedented initiative, and how it fits with your gaming strategy?
Games were an early bet for us – we have chosen them because they could not predict and a great way to test technology. For Suiplay0x1, we announced this at the Korea Blwchin Week in September 2024 and we got about 1700 prior requests in that first week. Now, we are up to 7000 advances for our 2025 version. Although $ 599 is not cheap, our strategy revolves around obtaining a Web3 in the hands of people responsibly. We have made a partnership with NHN and Xoccyty in Korea, and we build this as a bridge between Web2 and Web3. It is the first mobile device for web3 – no one else is the same.
How can you display the relationship between Web2 and Web3?
I confirm that they will merge. I don’t think web3 will take over or change the web2 – it will merge naturally. You see varying techniques that already converge – artificial intelligence with Blockchain, AR/VR, robots. This will create a request from people who want to ownership of their content, their medical records and data. As a content of the content, you want to control how to achieve this. As a consumer, you want to know where your information comes from.
I chose Seoul as a major destination for the first Asian tour as an administrative director, and SUI maintains a strong presence at the Korea Blonde Week. What makes Korea an important market in your global strategy?
Korea is an incredibly dynamic market. The retail community here is very interested and participated in Crypto, which makes them very educated about the first technology and adoption. The developer community is similar because they have all this background to exposure to it. When you can partnership with a country at the forefront of technology and be among the first adopters, you benefit from this. Games here are especially great – they pay the border.
Looking at the example of Korea, what other areas do you see has the ability to become another position like Korea?
The United Arab Emirates is at the forefront of attracting WEB3 business with its organizational environment. Vietnam takes great steps with developers. Greece has amazing educational systems, producing builders that are widely capable. In Africa, people are significantly adept in adopting new technologies, especially in the integration of trade through chat platforms.
SUI holds forward the scale project in Meta while the American organizational scene turns. How do these experiences constitute your view of the current environment?
I will not call the scale for a failure – it has been deliberately closed for very good reasons. Much of what has become of the scale, and we took an amazing technique born in Meta. The movement of the movement was built on Facebook to support 3.5 billion people, and we built Sui to accommodate this scale. Looking forward, management is now considering the right things – calm organization, meaningful policy, creating an environment that maintains the strength of the brain and builds towards a comfortable economy.
