Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht will be pardoned

President Donald Trump, now in office, faces high expectations to deliver on his campaign promises — including the release of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht. During the Bitcoin 2024 conference in July last year, Trump pledged to commute Ulbricht’s life prison sentence if he was elected president. Elon Musk has now expressed his support for this cause, stating that the time has come.

Will Ross Ulbricht be released today or tomorrow?

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk said He responded to a meme urging Trump to “pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht,” confidently noting that “Ross will be released as well.”

Bitwise CEO echoed Musk’s sentiments, saying: “Ross Ulbricht will be released. We have entered a new era of freedom for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in America.”

The cryptocurrency community has been vocal about making pardoning Ulbricht a priority for the Trump administration. Dennis Porter, co-founder of the Satoshi Act Fund, shared similar sentiments by retweeting the statement: “Donald Trump needs to do what he said and #FreeRoss on day one, today.”

Angela McArdle, chair of the Libertarian National Committee (LNC), sparked further speculation, revealing that Ulbricht’s pardon is expected to happen “today or tomorrow.”

The Case of Ross Ulbricht and the Dark Silk Road

Ross William Ulbricht, known online as “Dread Pirate Roberts,” ran the Silk Road dark web marketplace. In 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for facilitating illegal activities on the platform. Since his imprisonment, Ulbricht has expressed deep remorse for his actions and has focused on self-improvement through education and advocating for his release.

The cryptocurrency community has consistently rallied behind Ulbricht, defending his freedom as a symbol of justice and reform. On forecasting platform Polymarket, bettors are placing a 94% chance that Trump will still carry out the pardon.
