SEI LABS reveals the EVM network only in SIP-3
SEI LABS, the basic development team behind SEI (SEI), presented a suggestion, SIP-3, to transfer the network to the ETHEREUM Virtual Machine model (EVM).
The proposal seeks to remove the support of Cosmwasm transactions and original Cosmos transactions to focus only on the structure based on EVM. This transformation aims to simplify the SEI ecosystem and reduce the complexities of maintaining double support for both EVM and Cosmos environments.
SEI laboratories are paid only for EVM
SIP-3 notes that only EVM addresses can start transactions, and all future transactions must be exclusive. It seeks to gradually get rid of Cosmwasm contracts and original universe messages.
However, the basic features such as attention and governance will remain available through PrePOMPIS.
“Only moving to EVM structure will simplify the SEI developer and significantly experience the user, reduce the general expenditures of the infrastructure, and SEI position more vigorously within the broader EVM ecosystem,” an offer Read.
More importantly, SIP-3 includes a triple-phase approach to EVM. The first stage focuses on creating EVM indicators. This ensures that all Cosmos and Cosmwasm assets can be accessed by EVM.
In the second stage, new Cosmasm postports will be neglected. In addition, the IBC transfers based on Cosmos will be banned. The final stage will include disrupting old reactions, removing support for the implementation of the Cosmwasm contract, and transactions involved in non -EVM addresses.
Phillip Su, Director of Engineering and lead at SEI LABS, noted that a large part of the network activity already depends on EVM, which justifies the decision to fully focus on this. Using has increased since the launch of Sei V2.

The SEI network has provided EVM support with SEI V2 in Q2 2024. The network’s performance has been impressive since then.
SU highlighted that she had reached more than $ 500 million in the total closed value (TVL). SEI V2 has more than 19.3 million portfolios, and daily transactions exceeding 4.1 million. In addition, the network is proud of more than 300,000 active addresses per day and hosts more than 200 projects on Mainnet.
While SEI has achieved remarkable growth, dual architecture has made many challenges. Users require EVM management and original addresses.
In addition, the infrastructure requires a logic dedicated to the compatibility between the two ecosystems, which puts additional burdens on the node and developers. Maintaining mutual compatibility also increases the general expenses of the code base. Therefore, this complicates the correction of errors and the test. By focusing only on EVM, SEI aims to eliminate these challenges.
“The proposed transition will lead to an increase in adoption, the experience of the improved developer, and a more coherent society. What ahead of me is how this SEI explains to solve the largest restrictions on EVM: wide performance,” books.
However, the proposal that made it clear that users, developers and infrastructure teams will need some changes in adaptation. Teams that provide basic services such as RPC (remote procedures) and indexing should guarantee that their systems interact only with EVM application programming facades.
Users will need to deport assets to the original EVM wallets or use bridging mechanisms. Finally, application developers must implement Cosmwasm apps to EVM and ensure compatibility with EVM Frontens. This shift will require a great effort, but it will also cancel the full capabilities of the ecological system of SEI.
Although SIP 3 promises to enhance performance and adoption, its success depends on society’s ability to move in the challenges of deportation, active participation and reactions to the Sei community.
