Sam -German said on Thursday that Fedy Simo, CEO and InstaCart President, will join Openai as a new executive of applications.
“I will remain the CEO of Openai, but in this new configuration, I will be able to increase my focus on research, account and safety,” Altman wrote at a SIMO on Thursday morning.
Altman announced the employment of SIMO in a letter to the employees on Wednesday. Openai published Altman as a blog post on the same day.
“Applications collect a group of current trade and operational teams responsible for how our research has reached and benefits the world, and Fidji is uniquely qualified to lead this group,” Altman wrote in his letter to the employees.
Altman said in his message that SIMO “has already contributed a lot to our company” since joining Openai’s Board of Directors in March 2024. He added that SIMO will start working in Openai later this year and “will move from her role in InstaCart within the next few months.”
In its new role, Simo will reports directly to Altman.
Altman wrote on X. “Fidji is exceptional; we have worked together on Openai over the past year and noticed its deep commitment to our mission.”
Altman added: “I cannot imagine a better member of the team to help us expand the next 10x range (or 100x, let’s see).”
When approaching the comment, an Openai spokesman referred Business Insider to the blog post.

Simo started her career in EBY before moving to Meta, where she indicated on Facebook and Advertising products.

She joined InstaCart as a member of the Board of Directors in January 2021 and became its CEO in August 2021.
On Thursday, Simo wrote in the X publication that she will continue to be the CEO of Instacart for the next few months and will continue to chair her council after joining Openai.

Simo added: “I am very grateful to my InstaCart team on the amazing journey we made together, and I look forward to supporting the next CEO during the move,” Simo added.
Simo did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.
