New York City warns residents of a new fraud targeting people in parking counters.
In new press releaseThe New York Ministry of Transport (DOT) warns the city of the fraud, which uses the QR fraudulent symbols to steal the payment data for the victims.
The authorities say that QR symbols lead to malicious web sites that require credit card data, noting that the legitimate ways to pay the price of parking lots in New York are through Parknyc or on the same meters.

“Beware of consumers: The fraudsters target parking meters, and we want you to be vigilant. If you see the quick response code on the parking meter, and do not wipe it lightly, and please report it. This is a fraud process to collect your payment information, and we are working with the application of the law for accountability.”
According to the press statement, the authorities began to fight the plan strongly by carrying out searches at the city level, removing QR codes and preparing ways for the population to report fake QR codes. If the fake fast response code is monitored, the population is required to demolish it and contact Parknyc.
