- Seattle visited for the first time in May 2025 after years of dream about this topic.
- The city surprised me in the northwest of the Pacific as New Yorker.
- I found a strange tourist landmark, a free banana, and a technical neighborhood full of nature.
When my train arrived at the Seattle King Street station on a sunny morning, I did not expect a hotel in the city center to feel a picnic.
I didn’t think I would find a chewing wall in an alley later in the afternoon. When I felt a roar while touring the loud streets the next day, the last thing I thought I was seeing it was a free snack cart.
This was my first time in Washington, one I wanted to visit since I was a child. When I developed a task of traveling in the college, I found myself making trips from California to the coast to Portland, Oregon, to see more northwest of the Pacific.
However, Seattle has always been far north to include it in the flight line. In fact, I had no opportunity to visit Washington State – until recently.
During a week of home in New York City to the western coast of North America in May 2025, I spent three days in Seattle. As a visitor for the first time, I found that the city is full of surprises.
I traveled to Seattle from Vancouver, and I was surprised when I found that the train ticket was less than half of the travel price.

I spent about 100 hours on amtrak trains from the northeast to the southwest. In my experience, travel by train in the United States is usually more expensive than flying, although this depends on the road.
So when I was booking my travel from Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada to Seattle, I was shocked that the trainer’s train ticket cost $ 50 compared to the primary economy of $ 150 on the same day.
Certainly, I paid more hours-it took four hours to ride compared to the trip for about an hour. However, you are excited to travel slowly and watch the landscape turns from one country to another.
I was also shocked by the most comfortable convenience in the economy compared to aircraft.

I initially traveled and business class at AMTRAK trains before, but this was my first trip in the coach since I was a child. So I was not sure how to compare my countless experiences in the basic economy.
Since the ticket was less than half of the price, I did not expect the train seat to be more comfortable than the harsh plane seats and the identity that I used to. I even avoid the neck and back pain that I usually get when flying.
On the train, the seats felt the widest area of the stem more than the model economic trip.
Walking a mile in Seattle feels more arduous than it is in New York.

It came out of the amtrak train in Seattle in the back. This was the first time that my legs have been stretched since it resigned in Vancouver four hours ago. Through independent rocky soundtrack in my ear and sun’s earphones, I was excited to rid my footback bag to my hotel one mile.
But I quickly learned that a tendency in Seattle does not feel like a tendency in New York. The path was almost completely hard. When I stopped arresting my breath at an intersection, I noticed that the street to my right went up to what is as long as I could see.
In my city, I walk a lot, but most roads are relatively flat. So I did not expect to feel tired after only one mile.
I was excited to visit the distinguished Pike Place, but I was surprised when I learned that it was not always a car -free space.

Located in the center of Seattle, Pike Pile Market is located in the center of Seattle, and is a distinctive outdoor market with more than 200 stores and restaurants. I heard about it for decades, so I spent the first day in Seattle to see the nine -acre shopping center.
On the back of a sunny Thursday, the market was crowded with both locals and tourists. I mixed my way through what I felt like a line to get a peek on fresh seafood. When you need a mob break, I found a shelter inside a used book store.
Often, the connection truck was walking in it, dividing the crowd into triggered cartons, but most cars were not allowed to drive via the Pike Place. This is logical to me, because each vehicle passed the pedestrian flow.
But I was surprised when I learned that the streets paved with gravel in the open market are usually open to all cars-the city tests a ban on cars regardless of sellers, delivery drivers and those with disabilities, The Seattle Times reported in April. The temporary ban started on April 23 and will continue until the end of the summer.
I was fortunate enough to nick my journey inadvertently while the ban. I couldn’t imagine what would be the case if the cars could move freely across the crowded market.
I stumbled on the attractiveness of popular tourism, the gums wall, in Seattle.

While wandering in the narrow alleys around the Pike Place market, I was slowed by groups of tourists who stopped taking selfies in front of a vibrant brick wall. The wall was settled with a range of shapes from peaches to peiwinkle.
Initially, I thought the color stains were drying out of the paint. But when I saw a pedestrian pulling sharp from his mouth and stuck it on the brick wall, I realized that the wall was a gum fabric.
I was shocked and brought up slightly on your awareness, but when I focused on how the wall actually appeared instead of the bacterium materials, I thought it was a playful artwork.
Before you ask, no, I did not add my own contribution to the Seattle gum wall.
I was surprised to find a three -storey goal in the city center.

I lost my shipping port somewhere between Vancouver and Seattle, so I went to a target near the city center hotel. Returning home in New York City, the goals I repeat are small and offer more than one medicine store.
Therefore, I was shocked when I learned that this site was an institution at a distance of 96,000 square feet, from three floors. While you are still smaller than the goals you will find outside the cities, According to the Seattle TimesThe store contained a wide range of grocery stores, hygiene tools and technical products.
There were so many home commodity corridors that I thought I could decorate my entire apartment with its offers.
I did not expect the technology neighborhood to be full of nature.

Seattle has long been known as the Technology Center, where software engineers have been moving in large numbers to work in large companies such as Amazon and Google.
Local residents told me that I can find the prosperous scene in the South Lake Union neighborhood, the home of the original Amazon headquarters. The presence of the company in more than 30 offices of the offices led to the “Amazonia” neighborhood.
Before visiting, I expected to find something but the streets around the business lined with glass skyscrapers in a technology nourishing neighborhood. So I was surprised by the great presence of nature in South Lake Union.
The Neighborhood Borders Lake Union, where the park of the floods full of contestants, bikers, discussions and geese. Local residents said that the park had died on weekends, but technology workers are repeated during the week. Neverted, the Google building had a full forest of trees on the roof.
I have never seen a free banana before.

My attention caught my attention while hiking via “Amazonia. In an external space between Amazon buildings in South Lake Union, it is difficult to miss the light yellow trailer.
I took a closer look and saw boxes full of bananas under the umbrella, and a sign on it, “Take one – not only for Amazon but for anyone in society.”
I did not expect to find a free snack in the city center. Amazon previously told Business Insider that the founder Jeff Bezos reached the idea of offering a free healthy snack without a cover. The platform was opened for the first time in 2015.
I did not expect to see an active volcano near a major city.

From the surface of the hotel, a local referred to a mountain at a distance and told me that it was an active volcano.
I could barely see the volcano through fog, but they told me Mount Rene, who lasts in 1894, was more clear in the clear days.
I was shocked when I learned that this city, the home of nearly 800,000 people, is very close to what could be a natural disaster. According to the Seattle Emergency Management OfficeThe city is a safe distance away from the flow of potential explosion, but water and energy resources may be affected.
My trip to Seattle was all that I was hoping to be and more.

The Seattle mixture of natural and urban lifestyles reminded me of my previous trips to the northwestern cities of the Pacific, which went to me.
But I was surprised by the unique features of Seattle, from the Pike Place market to the strange gums wall.
And because it was completely different from New York City, I definitely plan to return to Seattle for another Big Apple break.
