Following an executive order from the President Donald TrumpTikTok users in the US are reportedly seeing signs of increased censorship of the app, which was once seen as a haven for free expression.
After a brief internet outage due to new laws meant to address national security concerns, TikTok has resumed operations.
But users noticed fewer live broadcasts, higher rates of content being reported or removed, and more frequent warnings about misinformation, according to a Reuters report.
The app is owned by China ByteDancewas forced to sell it to an American buyer under new laws passed during the Biden administration.
Reuters adds that after the platform was revived, some users claim that TikTok moderates content more strictly, including removing comments or posts containing phrases such as “Free Palestine.”

Others say parody videos, like one that makes fun of him Elon Muskhas been classified as misinformation, limiting its reach.
Changes in the platform’s behavior have raised concerns, with users speculating that these actions may reflect a shift in TikTok’s policies.
However, TikTok confirmed that there have been no significant changes to its algorithms and assured users that the current instability is temporary as they work to restore normal operations, Reuters wrote.
Despite this, the growing sense of censorship has sparked debate about the fine line between content moderation and freedom of expression on social media platforms.
