I filled my area in color, and now I hate it and “dopamine decor”

Months ago, I turned my little room into a rainbow area and loved it. Now, I can barely stand in it.

After moving with my aunt last year, I wanted to make my beige room feel like at home, especially because she needed to work as a sleeping room, office and a secondary living room.

When I monitored the direction of “dopamine” that appeared in the design magazines and through YouTube channels, it looked like an optimal jewelry.

The trend revolves around everything that tends to bright colors and fun designs to create a space that provokes joy. At that time, I thought that adding light, infant, and color in my life seemed to be a great idea.

The cost of turning my room is about $ 3500

I bought large hot tanks for use as storage.

Dopamine -inspired by a dual shell -shaped bed, an average Ikea office with an extended table, a wall of colored art prints, and three hot cabinets.

Taskrabbit workers have been hired to paint a blue and purple examination plate on the walls, assembly of furniture, and installation of a display.

Showstopper in Space was a curved yellow sofa that resembled the attached pasta, nicknamed the love of “pasta sofa and cheese”.

The total re -design cost was about $ 3500, which was true on the budget. Initially, the space was presented exactly what the direction promised – an explosion of happiness.

Cohers told me how much they liked my virtual background at the meeting and friends commented that I managed to make my small space look bigger.

For a few months, I also enjoyed my room.

I started to wish I hadn’t covered my area in large colors.

My turning point came when a new contract job started. I had to use the company’s equipment, so I became stuck in my office often and forced the work surrounded by my colored options.

Soon after, I was spending eight hours a day in that room to see Dicry in my peripheral vision.

Almost at the same time, I started building a personal brand on LinkedIn. As my follow -up grows, I developed an advanced but fun brand image, clashed with Dopamine’s panel in my room.

I plan to shoot the video content, so there has been a simple and simple background for me. My vibrant space will not work.

The items that once brought joy have become frustrations. The Pastel Checkerboard and the unconventional sofa make me feel working and sleeping in the children’s room.

The space also affects my daily habits. I don’t like to spend more time in my room more than that. Whenever I do not have business meetings, I run to another part of the house.

Funny enough, my family, partner and friends still love my space – but they are not the ones who have to live and work in it every day.

I plan to be more careful if you follow the design direction again

After only one year, I plan to restore space to feel more classic and immortal. I may keep the office and cabinets, draw the walls (perhaps lamy washing or solid color), and justify the yellow sofa.

My biggest advice to others tends to interior design trends is to sit on your plans for a few months before moving forward to see if you still love them.

I also hope to make small changes on my area at first, giving myself time to settle before adhering to a large redesign. Perhaps this approach allowed me to make better -term decisions about the space I will spend a lot of time.

Above all, I learned that the direction that seems perfect on social media does not always translate into daily life – especially when daily life includes staring at those options for eight hours during work calls.
