CTO Meta says smart glasses will not replace smartphones yet

Meta said that he does not think smart glasses will be able to replace smartphones in the near future.

He said during an interview at the Bloomberg Technology Summit in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Busworth said smartphones benefit from the presence of “incredibly intertwined ecosystem connected to the rest of the world around us.” He added that this makes it slower and difficult for people to switch to smart glasses.

“So I think this will take a longer journey. The good news is that they are working well at concerts,” he said.

Bosworth praised Professor Pro Apple headphones during his interview with Bloomberg, but said that the company made a “rising mistake” when they made the device very heavy to wear it.

“Therefore, from an engineering point of view, it is a wonderful thing and our congratulations to this team. From the point of view of the product, you can find out that it is their first show in space,” he said.

“The products of the first generation are difficult. It was not even the second or third generation to discover them and refine the thing, and they made many mistakes in that in terms of weight and where the weight was.”

Bosworth is not the only Meta executive power that believes smartphones will not be displaced by smart glasses. “People get rid of phones any time soon.”

Zuckerberg said: “It is not as if we’ll be removed from our phones, but I think what will happen is that, slowly, we will start doing more things with our glasses and leave our phones in our pockets more,” Zuckerberg said.

In January, Zuckerberg said during Meta’s profits that the year 2025 would be a “decisive year” to see if smart glasses will become the “next computing platform” or if “just a longer grinding”.

Zuckerberg said: “The Ray-Ban Meta Ai glasses are a real success, and this will be the year in which we understand the path of artificial intelligence glasses as a category. It has sold many distinct products in the history of consumer electronics from 5 to 10 million units in its third generation.”

In February, Essilorloxotica said that it has sold two million pairs of glasses since 2023. The CEO of Essilorloxotica Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Directors said that the company aims to produce 10 million smart glasses for Meta every year by the end of 2026.
