Facebook is no longer truly friends, Zuckerberg is witnessing
On Monday, the United States government placed Mark Zuckerberg on the platform of witnesses, where she faced Mita in an experience of anti -monopoly that may lead to the disintegration of the social media empire in Tech Titan.
Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Meta, has witnessed that Facebook has evolved significantly since the statute has been launched more than 20 years ago and that its main goal is no longer communicating with friends anymore.
The Federal Trade Committee argues that Meta monopolizes applications that share content with friends and family.
“The friendly part has decreased slightly,” said Zuckerberg, wearing a suit and tie, and he was interrogated by FTC lawyer in a federal court hall in Washington, DC.
Zuckerberg, who was the first witness, was expected to be interrogated for seven hours.
“It turned into a wide discovery and entertainment space,” said Zuckerberg, Facebook’s summary.
FTC argues in its case that Meta, then called Facebook, violated the American competition laws when they acquired Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014.
FTC says the Instagram acquisition of $ 1 billion from Meta and WhatsApp value of $ 19 billion was aimed at setting competition and controlling the field of social media. The government argues that these acquisitions were part of the “purchase or burial” strategy to maintain the dominance of the market.
FTC said in the papers of the court that Meta maintained its monopolistic website “in a large part” by following the Zuckerberg strategy shown in an internal email of 2008 in which the CEO wrote, “It is better to buy from competition.”
Daniel Matthenson, FTC’s lawyer, said in his opening statement earlier on Monday:
In his opening statement, Mark Hansen, Mark Hansen, argued that the government’s issue is “a portfolio of FTC theories in war with facts and in war with law.”
Hansen criticized a fTC lawsuit against Meta as “misleading”, as he said that Instagram and WhatsApp were not illegal. Hansen argued that there is no monopoly, saying that Mita is facing huge competition from her competitors, Tijook and Yutop.
The case can be one of the most antise -antiseptic trials in years. If FTC organizers are their way, Meta can be forced to sell WhatsApp and Instagram.
The anti -monopoly experience is expected to continue up to eight weeks. Judge James Boasberg will be the only decision on whether dead had violated competition laws because it is not a jury.
