Exclusively: “Tiger Cub” Lee Anslie’s MAVERICK VENTERES raises $ 240 million in new investment financing in the early stage
In 1993, Lee Anslie was among the first “Tiger Cubs” that left the legendary investor Julian Robertson Tiger Management and began alone. As a hedge fund, Anslie, MAVERICK CAPITAL, focused on public securities, but its analysts use the company’s capital to invest in private companies-which is called “Crossover” the approach that TIGER CUBS hires such as Chase Coleman.
David Singer, the experienced operator who worked as the founding CEO of three traded companies for the public, joined Mavrick in 2004 to lead its own investments. “I am here after 20 years,” Singer told me on Friday.
The approach has changed during two decades in the company. For one of them, in 2014, Mavrick decided to divide the financing structure, and he no longer used hedge funds for his own investments. Instead, MAVERICK VENTERES collected her first box from a different profile for investors who were more comfortable with a long -term adventure approach, such as the largest and standing family offices. While Mavrick Capital kept a public partner’s share in the Investment Fund, the limited partners will now provide the outer capital, although 30 % of the financing will come from the project partners, including Ansslie.
MAVERICK VENTERES today announced more than $ 240 million of new financing – raising its total over the years to more than 855 million dollars, with more than $ 1.4 billion of management assets. Although MAVERICK VENTERES now has a separate financing structure from MAVERICK CAPITAL, which currently runs more than $ 13.5 billion of total assets, the two companies are still deeply completely, with the “wall” between them, and the singer and colleague of the administrative director Ammar Bhatershaya told me.
Although other intersection funds operate under one roof, MAVERICK VENTERES is different not only because of its financing structure, but because it focuses on investments in the early stage. This means that investors such as Siner and Bhattacharlya follow trends, such as the Toulidi AI, before they are on the radar of many public market analysts, and they help to see companies during their entire life sessions. Investors in the project – and their governor companies – can take advantage of the vast resources of the muffian capital, from working with data scientists to help startups to communicate with public companies to employ members of the Board of Directors or find talents. Meanwhile, Maverick Capital can rely on investors in the first stage to help them understand the technology markets quickly.
“because [Maverick Capital] The singer told me: “In investors in the long run, they are trying to collect mosaics for what is happening against hell. This is a very marginal use of time.”
Although MAVERICK VENTERES focuses on SEED, Series A and Series B deals, the company has enjoyed a number of exits for 20 years of work, including 19 since its launch as its own box a decade ago. The seed investor at the Health Company Hims & HERS, which was announced in 2021, and helped Permira to start cyber security on Permira in 2024, with a rate of $ 1.3 billion.
The MAVERICK VENtures also works in the evergreen structure, which means that its wine has no end date, allowing it to continue to support companies without relying on traditional box courses. Because Mavrick partners provide a lot of funding, Singer said that the company is interested in “almost exclusively” with capital gains for investments, instead of the 2 % traditional fees that the box managers earn (although Maverk Chart still collects 2 % fees). “This is good for businessmen because they know that we care about them and we will not lose our attention,” he said.
One of the areas of health technical concentration, including – like all project companies these days – is still intersection with artificial intelligence. But BHATTACHAYEA says they were looking more with consumer -focused on -the -worn -based companies, similar to their bet on Hims & HERS, assuming that more and more people will get services through their phones and laptops. Recent investments included the start of Teleenutrition Nourish and Care Startup Oula.
MAVERICK team is small, with only five full -time investors, but Singer says this allows the company to go deep into a number of deals. He told me: “We think about this as a full sport.” “Once we invest, we are in that.”
Eagle correction… on Friday, we erred in the “Knights Corps” in the line of the email. “Calvary” means something completely different and not related to mono animal. – Allie Garfinkle
