The “Beijing Military City” satellite images, the fast berries of the fast accumulation of the secret facility, located about 20 miles southwest of the capital.
While there is no clear military presence around the complex, US intelligence officials believe that the massive complex can serve as a wartime leadership and nuclear hideout. China quickly builds a nuclear arsenal that it can compete in the United States during a decade.

The growing military presence in China in the East and South China Sea-especially in the vicinity of Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines-pushed to face Beijing’s influence in the Indian Pacific Ocean.
Since both countries are competing to influence the region, the United States runs joint military exercises with countries allied to prepare their forces to work together.
Beijing also increased its marine and identity operations in the water near Taiwan, prompting US military officials to consider them “exercises, as it is proofs” in order to reunite the forced Taiwan with China on the mainland.
Taiwan has strengthened defense measures before a possible invasion of China, which claims that self -government democracy is part of its territory.
With many short -range ballistic missiles and international ballistic missiles at their disposal, China’s nuclear arsenal is a lot of threat International opponents As for her neighbors.
Before construction

Financial times I first reported the construction of the complex in January, indicating the satellite images of the site, which extends about 2.5 miles.
In February 2022, the site was built in the north of the Chongzing reservoir, which appeared to be residential, with large areas of open lands, according to satellite images.
It was cleared after a year

The satellite pictures taken in February 2023 showed that the area that was largely cleared of residential buildings in preparation for the main construction of the complex, which seemed to start in mid -2014.

In June 2024, the construction site was barely similar to what appeared a little more than a year ago, with new tunnels and roads surrounding a central mass of the maintenance of the main building.
There are no official references to the construction site on Chinese government sites, and the Chinese embassy said it is not aware of the details of the new command center.
Although there was no visible military presence in the complex, reaching the facility is completely prohibited.
Signs show that drones and photos are not allowed near the site, and the background of the site has been prevented. People were also banned from using walking paths near the site.

A former US intelligence official told the Financial Times that the new command center can replace the current military headquarters in China, which was built during the Cold War.
The official said: “The size, scale, and characteristics are partially buried for the new facility indicates that it will replace the Western Hills complex as a driving facility in the basic wartime.”

Regardless of being the central center for Chinese military operations, the former US official said the facility can also provide “Bunker Buster” for Chinese officials in the event of war.
Rene Babiaraz, a former photo analyst at the National Agency for Spatial Geographical Contest, told the Financial Times that satellite images show that they appear about 100 cranes at the site that builds facilities and underground corridors.
As tunnels and deep underground spaces in the concrete, a China researcher told the Financial Times that the complex has “all the distinctive features of a sensitive military attachment.”
“It is nearly 10 times greater than the Pentagon, it is suitable for the aspirations of Shi Jinping to bypass the United States,” the researcher said. “This castle serves only one purpose, which is to serve as a resurrection day for the growing and capable Chinese army.”

The new leadership center is the latest step that shows advanced military ambitions in China. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army set a target to modernize the army in the country by 2027.
As of mid -2014, the Pentagon estimated that the power of Chinese missiles is likely to have more than 600 operational nuclear warheads, and the number is expected to grow only. Defense officials estimate that China’s nuclear arsenal can have up to 1500 nuclear warheads deployed by 2035 – as it corresponds to almost US programs.
