Why do banks offer subscription deals?
Banks and banking apps offer sign-up deals to attract new customers. They are happy to pay to acquire new customers because once the account is opened, they can then offer other products to this new customer. It’s mutually beneficial, because customers get rewarded for trying a new app (and sometimes continuing to use it), while banks get to grow their customer base.
Are there any restrictions on account bonuses?
Sometimes there will be some additional obstacles that you can overcome to get a reward. For example, you may be asked to deposit a certain amount of money into the account, set up direct deposit, or make a number of qualifying transactions. Just make sure you are aware of the eligibility criteria and make sure you can meet them.
When are sign-up bonuses delivered?
For the most part, a sign-up or account bonus is delivered to you within 30 to 90 days after you meet the requirements. Instant sign-up bonuses are very rare, so plan on having to keep a new account open for at least a month before you get the bonus or payout.
Will the bonus affect my credit score?
No, bank account sign-up bonuses will not affect your credit score. Accounts like checking and savings accounts and their history are not reported to the credit bureaus, so you don’t have to worry about that.
However, credit cards can affect your credit score. If you apply for a new credit card to get a bonus, applying for a credit card can temporarily affect your score, thanks to a strict credit check. If you are approved, you will have a new credit limit on file that you need to manage.
