Alexey Pertsev from Tornado Cash gets “freedom” from prison

Alexei Persif, co -founder of Crypto Mixer Tornado Cash, was released from prison under strict electronic surveillance conditions, a great victory for decentralization supporters.

Alexey Pertsev shared an emotional post on X (previously known as Twitter), and thanked all his support in his legal battle through donations. “Freedom is invaluable, but my freedom costs a lot of money,” he wrote.

The Dutch court suspended his detention before the trial, which would allow him to stay under surveillance as he was preparing to appeal against the conviction of money laundering.

A “torn” citizen from Tornado Cash

Persif, a 31 -year -old Russian citizen, was sentenced to 64 months in prison in a Dutch prison in May 2024 due to his alleged role in facilitating illegal transactions through Tornado Cash. His condemnation was a pivotal point in legal and ethical discussions about Defi and innovations such as Tornado Cash.

Persev’s legal battle angered in the encryption community, legal experts and privacy advocates. Many argue that he was fairly targeted to write an open source law, while claiming that he has organized money laundering. JUSTICEDAO and other decentralized invitation groups sparked donations to support his legal defense. Vitalik Buterin, co -founder of ETHEREUM, also pledged to support by donating 30 ETH to the Tornado Monetary Legal Defense Fund in May 2024.

Persev’s launch raisted in the official crypto coin of Tornado Cash, and raised it from $ 11.72 to $ 14.62, although the encrypted currency failed to maintain this gathering. At the time of writing this report, Torn is trading about $ 12.84 with a marketing of a market of $ 67.53 million.
