President Trump announced that mutual customs duties are sweeping a group of countries after the market closed on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, causing the S&P 500 to fall by 4.84 % – from 5670.97 at the end of the market on April 2, to 5396.52 (closing April 3, 2025).
Trump announced the definitions received on March 26, 2025, in addition to signing an executive order that imposes a 25 % tariff on car imports, and the market has slipped by 6.58 % since the day before the announcement of the next tariff.
The mutual definitions range from 10 % to 50 %, with Lisuto (50 %), Saint -Pierre and Micclon (50 %), Cambodia (49 %), Laos (48 %), Madagascar (47 %), Vietnam (46 %), Myanmar (44 %), SRi Lanka countries facing 10 tariffs.
Trump also imposed a 10 percent flat tariff on the products coming from almost all other commercial partners in the United States, affecting countries including Australia, the Dominican Republic, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
There will also be a 20 % tariff against European countries.
The mutual definitions will enter into force starting from April 5, 2025.
