An unknown striker causes headaches while upgrading the firstborn on Siboulia

Ethereum developer says that the last Pectra upgrade of Sepolia Testnet led to errors, which became worse after the attacker used a “edge case” to cause mining empty blocks.

Pectra appeared on its final test, Sepolia, at 7:29 am on March 5, but the ETHEREUM Marius Van der developer and find on March 8 mail The team immediately started to see the error messages on their GetH knot and empty blocs are mined.

The error was that the deposit contract led to the type of error event – a transfer event instead of the deposit, according to Van der and found.

The repair was launched, but Van Der Wijden says they missed one case from the edge, and an unknown user exploited it by sending a 0-tox transfer to the deposit address, which made the mistake again.

He said: “After a few minutes, we saw a lot of empty blocs again, so we looked again at the pools of transactions and found a treatment of another march that sparked the same cases of the edge.”

“First, we thought that someone from the trusted auditors had made a mistake, but we quickly realized that this deal arose from a new account recently funded by the tap.”

The ERC-20 standard does not prevent symbolic transmission; This allows anyone, even if he does not have any symbols, to move to another address that the unknown user realized, as Van der said.

“The only way to stop the attack is to filter all transactions that interact with the deposit contract. So we conducted the following special repair, which we published in a few Devops.”

He added: “We suspected that the attacker was reading some of our chats, so we decided not to publish the reform, but only updating some of the contract they control in order to obtain more full blocs on the network.”

By 2 pm, all the contract was updated with the repair, and the user’s unknown treatment was extracted.

Van Der Wijden said they had never lost the final touches during the accident, and the case was isolated on Sepolia because they were using a special deposit contract instead of the regular Mainnet deposit contract.

Previously, the developers tested the Pectra upgrade on the Holesky Testnet on February 26, which also faced problems.

As a result, developers decided to postpone the Pectra upgrade so that more tests could be performed.
